Course Description
After many situations happen on the mountain, from avalanche to accident, there are several minutes of uncertainty. During this time important decisions need to be made. Choices on whether to stay put and the call in for outside resources or try to make a break for the trail head. Considerations for treatment and care for the patient whether you’re moving or choosing to stay in place. During this course we provide several tools to help answer these questions and instruct through the decision making and best practices on patient care.
Who Should Take this Course
The Rescue, Recovery, & Retrieval course is for ANYONE, regardless of method of travel, who wants to recreate in or near avalanche terrain. Participants may have attended some awareness classes or workshops or completed an avalanche course, but none are a prerequisite for this course.
Student Learning Outcomes
At the end of the Rescue, Recovery, & Retrieval course, the student should be able to:
- Choosing whether to stay put and the call for outside resources
- Choosing treatment and care for a patient
- Decision making and best practices on patient care
Prerequisites
Students must be able to travel in avalanche terrain and bring appropriate equipment for traveling on snow to class. There are no other prerequisites.
